Sharing of past experience with calibration experiments, advantages and difficulties in implementation and accuracy.
Presentation of the current state of calibration policy and data quality checks.
Discuss about uncertainties in the current calibration method used by each participant, variables not accounted for, assumptions, etc.
Propose promising methods, including advantages in accuracy and implementation. Receive feedback, collaboration proposals, etc.
Decide a common goal of accuracy and tolerated uncertainty both in procedures and as absolute value.
Processing Cloud radar data and metadata (e.g. analysing housekeeping data, quality control routines, retrieval algorithms)
Workshop objectives
The goal of the 2018 ACTRIS Cloud Radar Calibration workshop is to gather people from the Cloud Radar community to share current state of knowledge on calibration methodologies and data quality checks. Technical advantages and limitations of different methods will be discussed from both experts and operators perspectives. Proposals and future research directions will also be discussed. Conclusions from this workshop will guide the establishment of calibration and data quality policies for the ACTRIS cloud remote sensing facilities.
Participants
Cloud radar manufacturers, Cloud Radar operators, Cloud radar experts, concerning specifically pulsed and continuous emission 35 and 95 GHz Cloud Radars. The objective is not to perform training but rather to discuss the current state of the art and to guide future research.
